Pro tempore

“Pro tempore” is a Latin phrase that means “for the time being” or “temporary.” In English, it is often used to refer to someone who holds a position temporarily, usually until a permanent replacement is found or until the situation changes. For instance, in politics, a pro tempore leader may be appointed to fill a vacant position until a new leader is elected or appointed. Similarly, in legal contexts, a pro tempore judge may be assigned to preside over a case if the regular judge is unavailable.
